Baby, You're a Firework!

I missed posting about Canada Day and 4th of July is impending for my American friends, so here's a little red, white, and blue in the form of a pic from last year's photoshoot with Hello June Photography.  Have an amazing weekend, everyone!

Wedded to Bliss

20s wedding dresses are on my mind for many reasons: one very dream reason is this 20s cream silk & spiderweb lace beauty which I have just added to the etsy shop!

Bye to the Baroness, Hello June, and Attending to the Attic

As my new blog header hopefully suggests, I'm making some changes to this space to reflect the fact that my focus these days is on being a vintage seller and stylist, rather than purely a vintage fashion blogger.  This means that I am going to be continuing to now use the blog more as a professional space for Adeline's Attic Vintage, though I may throw in a few good old fashioned vintage outfit posts for good measure, now and then.  For now, I have to extend huge thanks to the incredibly talented Safauna of Hello June Photography for making my vintage aesthetic dreams come true today, through the creation of my stunning new blog and shop header!  She also worked with me to snap some great photos of vintage 20s, 30s, and 40s garments which are going into my shop shortly!  Props to Danger Delux, Aki, and Chantel for exquisite modelling, and extra thanks to Aki for hair and makeup work on the shoot!  I'm a happy happy camper! More images from the shoot shortly!

Fire & Ice: A Vintage Photoshoot with Danger De Lux

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of having fellow retro fashion & vintage lifestyle blogger Danger De Lux model for me. Watch for this Titian-haired belle in my latest shop listings and check out some of the results of our collaboration below!

Transformations & Inspirations

It's been far too long since I last blogged! Behind the scenes, a lot of exciting personal and professional transformations are taking place (all will be revealed in due course).  For now, I want to say thank you to Safauna of Hello June Photography for the AMAZING photos she took, both for The Moon River Mercantile Co shop, as well as for a few listings going up in my old shop, Adeline's Attic Vintage.  My models are some very inspiring local women who are at the helm of their own enterprises (Kayla [at far right] is a musician, Nomin [at far left] is a vintage-inspired designer/clothing maker, and Daniella [centre] is chef/owner of a Cajun restaurant! More photos from the shoot in my next post!

Beach Pajamas Amongst the Blossoms

Long-time followers of my blog will recall how much I adore 1930s beach pajamas.  Imagine my joy when I happened upon an intact 3-piece set, consisting of a hat, bolero, and really cool trousers in my friend's etsy shop (GarbOhVintage)!  I hope to do a full post on these at the lake this summer, but this set is so comfy and outlandishly cute, I couldn't resist wearing it for a spin in the garden.

A Birthday in Bohemia

This past Saturday, I celebrated the beginning of my last year of my 30s in 1920s Parisian bohemienne style, at the aptly named historical B & B, La Boheme, which is in the same neighbourhood as my new shop.  Kind thanks to my vintage loving pals, who donned some fun finery and joined me in the secret wine room for a lovely evening!

The Baronial Brag Book (and a Big Batch of Gratitude)

As I am moving forward and embarking on a new 'vintage adventure,' in the form of my business partnership with The Moon River Mercantile Co. (we're on Etsy too) I foresee that this blog space will be in for some changes to put it more in line with the new shop, both in style and in content. I feel like my own personal vintage style has been evolving and will continue to do so, as well.  Stay tuned, as it becomes clearer what new direction I will take this blog space.

I will soon share with you some images of our new vintage showroom; however, even while I look to the present and the future, I feel like now is a good time to revisit the wonderful projects, experiences, and accomplishments which my vintage fashion blog has afforded me over the past FOUR years.  So, forgive me if this comes across as bombastic, but I feel like it's so easy to get caught up in feeling like I am not doing enough that I need to sometimes stop and do an auto-pat on the back for the things that I *have* seen to fruition.  Consider this my blogger's CV, if you will.  Again, I want to thank those of you who have remained my loyal and patient followers and friends, as I've weathered the peaks and valleys of the past few years.

  • I was asked by vintage-repro label Able Grable to design and then model an early 1930s style dress that went on to be dubbed the "Vintage Baroness."

  • I really enjoyed doing a fashion history article for the SiW Costumers' Journal. Watch for more of my fashion history writings in the future!

  • I served as Artistic Director, Head Stylist, and Photographer for a shop photoshoot at Rutherford House. I've since done several other shoots, vintage stylings, and fashion history consultations. Looking forward to doing more of such things, including consult work for a film project slated to be filmed locally this fall!

Lately:

Along my journey, I have been able to meet some really interesting people. Some meetings led to friendships that I know will flourish for years to come; sadly, I had to let a few others fizzle, but on the whole, what a marvellous set of experiences I've had. Looking forward to a new chapter in the book of my vintage-loving life!

Exciting news, friends! Adeline's Attic Vintage is going to be integrating over the coming months into a business partnership known as The Moon River Mercantile Co., which will have a brick and mortar shop front in Edmonton, as well as an Etsy shop!  In support of this endeavour, I have begun sourcing some exciting vintage stock. Baronial Posturings and a Bird Hat

I'm not a REAL Baroness, but sometimes it's fun to play one on my blog!  To quote Dorothy Parker, "I've never been rich, but think I'd be darling at it!" Haha! Seriously, I am content being my non-baronial self, but I do love smart 1930s manor house fashions a la Gosford Park (and its predecessor, La Regle du Jeu).

Outfit:
1930s Jacket:  Garb-Oh Vintage
1930s style skirt: custom made by Wearing History
1930 style blouse: custom made by Nudeedudee
1930s/40s brown shoes: etsy

For some reason, I recently acquired several yellow vintage items (I guess lemony hues were big in the 40s and 50s!). Some of the loveliest ones are on consignment with me from my friend Rueby Retro (yes, I *do* do consignments sometimes with my shop, usually locally for now).

Rutherford House Photo Shoot

Although plans to work with a local student seeking to compose a Look Book for items in my Etsy shop fell through last minute, yesterday, I did the photography and vintage styling for what turned out to be pretty darn amazing photo-shoot at the wonderful Rutherford House.  Laurie of Retro Reporter bravely stepped in, not only to assist with wardrobe/outfit styling, but also to oversee the make-up and hairstyling, to chauffeur us to the shoot site, and generally to help oversee that everything behind the scenes was running smoothly all day.  My beautiful friends, Charly, Nicole, and Chantel, served as my incredible models and each also contributed their vintage hair & makeup skills to help us produce the series of images I captured!  I will reveal more of the photos from the shoot in the next post (though some are already up in my etsy listings).  Today, I wanted to give you a sample of a couple of the images we did of the amazing Edwardian gown in my shop, as a kind of wistful marker of the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

1920s Prohibition Whiskey Tasting Party: Edmonton Litfest

Last night I attended the first sort of vintage-y themed event I'd heard about since moving back to Edmonton.  It was the Edmonton Litfest Roaring Twenties Prohibition Whiskey Tasting Party. I really enjoyed learning more about the link between whiskey and Canadian history (the tasting bit was interesting too and there were a few playful burlesque interludes featuring fishnets and feathers).  As well, it was nice to see a few folks accessorizing their looks with vintage pieces!  All in all, it was a fun night! Since I only brought my iPhone, I didn't take many high quality pics and I completely forgot to snap a photo of my own outfit, so I have added an older image of me in the dress I actually wore to the event.
