Baronial Posturings and a Bird Hat

I'm not a REAL Baroness, but sometimes it's fun to play one on my blog!  To quote Dorothy Parker, "I've never been rich, but think I'd be darling at it!" Haha! Seriously, I am content being my non-baronial self, but I do love smart 1930s manor house fashions a la Gosford Park (and its predecessor, La Regle du Jeu).

Highlands Fling

I don't know about you, but I am all revved up about autumn and ready to say good-bye to summer. One of the key reasons? So I can wear some of my pretty plaid 1930s fall frocks!  This morning, the weather was not quite as scorching as it has been, so my photographer (thanks, mum!) and I ventured out to find a fun place for an outfit photoshoot (I am sure you have grown as weary of the backyard setting I've been shooting against as I have!!).  Imagine my glee when I remembered the colourful wall mural in the nearby historical neighbourhood of Highlands! Imagine my absolute joy when we got there and I found my outfit matched the plaid pattern and paint colours integrated into the mural. Rah-rah-rah! Huzzah for my one and only Highlands fling!

Flirty 30s Frou Frou

People often ask me how I can part with all the lovely vintage things I source from my shop or cull from my collection.  My answer is that it takes a lot of tough love and restraint not to hoard it all. Once in a while, I *do* keep what I find because they feel like a gift from the vintage gods. An adorable 30s blouse and deco hat found me in Montreal and probably my favourite find to date, a DEADSTOCK 1930s gown + slip set with 'birthday cake' colours and 3-D blue flowers, followed me home yesterday.  Which of these fabulously 'frou frou' lovelies shall I wear to my birthday party today? Stay tuned! What's YOUR favourite vintage find?

Knox Knockabout 20s/30s Hat

Just added to my Etsy shop:  this amazing 1920s to early 1930s roll-able brown fur felt Knox hat!  Very rare and in a wearable size.  The photo at the bottom is one I took of me wearing this topper last November. I'd take a new one, but it's SO snowy outside here!

What to Wear for a Deco High Tea Part TWO

Thank you all so much for your comments and suggestions regarding what I might wear to a place like the Windsor Arms for high tea. I know I had said "no more self portraits for a while," but I decided maybe giving some concrete choices might help you help me finalize what I'll wear? The knit suit was option #1; Option #2 might be my Bee's Knees dress (posted about earlier). Option #3 would be a very special frock I've just ordered from Able Grable if it arrives in time. Option #4 is this 1930s dress, with my $5.00 1930s chapeau? Oh, I'm so confused!
