Ugo Mochi: Poet of Shadows

Recently, I had an up close and personal encounter with the most amazing 1930s enamel topped table I have ever seen. It had divine silhouette scenes done in black on a white background on it (see last image).  While inspecting this scene, the name MOCHI was spied.  After a bit of internet research, I discovered more of the works of this artist, whose full name was Ugo Mochi.  One writer called him the "poet of shadows."  I  have long been in love with 1930s framed silhouette art, and have a lovely pair of framed images displaying ladies with dogs, but Mochi's works are just so meticulous and down right amazing!!

Silhouette art has always been a longstanding favourite of mine, too (as it is my mom's, which may very well explain, at least in part, my fascination with it). Thank you for sharing Mochi with us, I'd not encountered his work before but am now, instantly, smitten and deeply impressed.

Wishing you a beautiful Monday & week ahead,
Jessica

Thanks for sharing! His work looks gorgeous... the cloud he's working on in the first one is mind-blowingly detailed!! O_o
And that table top looks adorable, I'm sure it was wonderful to see in person!

Oh, these are gorgeous!! That table sounds like a dream! Our neighbors have a black dog named "Mochi" for his shadowy looks, which I always thought was quite clever ;)

I have a Mochi table with a farm scene silhouette, my dad bought for me at a local antique shop for Christmas a few years ago. Mine has a square top and it also has a rectangle top. http://dvintage.blogspot.com/2008/05/memorial-day-weekend.html

I love it.
