La Baronne D'Anthropologie, Part One
You are acquainted with Baroness Von Vintage. Time to meet her cousin, La Baronne D'Anthropologie. ;) Seriously, though, I've pored over the goodies on the Anthropologie site and selected the items that I think a 1930s Baroness of robust financial means, transported to the 21st century, would purchase as part of an outlandish spree.

the jacket is fantastic, in my favorite brown too! and also love the skirt; i wasn't that impressed with their site at first glance and didn't have the patience to browse properly, but you've done a marvelous job!
now there's more stuff i want and cannot have - their prices are ridiculous.

Seriously, WHY do the prices have to be so high? Maybe more importantly, why am I consistently drawn to things that are out of my price range?
And so I find a new way to torture myself and you all as well ;)
I so wish their prices were not so extravagant!! But gorgeous, gorgeous pieces.
Ain't that the way... Too pricey they are. That's paramount. But... they have style. I wish you all could afford to buy such luxury. But why does it have to be luxury? Why can't it just be normal status quo? If that makes sense...
Yeah, really! I think it's part of the branding of this company: it's supposed to be the "big sister" to Urban Outfitters, for the more monied older siblings of the hipster students who shop at UO (kind of like how Banana Republic is the pricier version of the Gap). Too bad. They look like high quality clothes, but based on the pricing, they assume we working girls all have the budget of a Carrie Bradshaw or something! Darlene makes a point: too bad things have changed so that high quality clothes and shoes are no longer within reach of more people these days. I sort of think the word globalization has something to do with it. Throw away mass produced clothes are so much more available now. If you want something that will last longer you have to pay top dollar (just as if you want to buy healthier foods like lower fat cheese, it is sometimes more expensive than buying vats of full fat!)
Ohh, that skirt and that jacket!! Perfect for Gosford Park (which I started watching for the umpteenth time today). But, yes, far too expensive for little ol' me. But I think I just get naturally drawn to the most expensive things in general...food, clothes perfume. ;]

Oh goodness---that skirt is perfect! I love looking at Anthro for inspiration and ideas, but yes, their prices are far too high for this thrifty girl and honestly, the quality isn't as high as they may want you to think. But they do make an awful lot of pretty things.
That jacket was truly something else! :) I love Gosford Park, remeber I saw it in Greece in an outdoor theatre the first time...
