Wallis and Edward Movie Confirmed

Hot off the virtual press, the Wallis-Edward movie, W.E. with Madonna at the helm is apparently confirmed by Madge herself on her website.  From the sounds of it, it is going to be structured after the manner of the Julie/Julia franchise.  Side note:  I was watching the PBS series, The Windsors recently, and was intrigued by its suggestion that Edward was the one who re-popularized the straw boater hat in the 1930s.  Never a dull moment in the vintage-obsessed life of the Baroness Von V.

My favourite part about the post I've linked to:

Madonna discusses the challenges of securing the costumes for the film:
"The Duchess (of Windsor) has, like, 80 costume changes. She was dressed by Balenciaga and Christian Dior and Vionnet and Schiaparelli. A lot of the actual stuff is in museum archives (and) they're not going to give it to me."

But Madonna has found a way to get her way, she explains, "A lot of these couture houses have offered to make stuff for me.

"Just the costumes alone are pretty daunting because the Duke and the Duchess (of Windsor) were both real clotheshorses. It'll be a combination of real vintage pieces; others we'll get remade based on patterns that have been dragged out of the archives, and then new stuff we'll make.

"Next time, I'm writing a movie about one person in one place who has no wardrobe!"

For now, I'll say THANK GOD Madonna is not playing Wallis. Still trying to be optimistic that the rest is worth watching...even if only for the above noted costumes!!!

Edward, Prince of Wales was THE male style icon in england in the 20s and 30s, he was the fashion leader extraordinaire, most people in the UK didn't know anything about Wallis Simpson until the abdication scandal broke.

sounds like this will be one to watch for the frocks..
