Dr. Knickerbocker's School of Fashion
Just finished the slightly-better-than-rough draft of my article, just got a cute-as-pie and cheap-like-borscht little 30s cotton dress and chestnut 30s Red Cross shoes in the mail, so I'm feeling like a kid outta school for the summer. As a result, thought I'd do a photo out by an exterior wall of my house, which is red brick like an old school house, to sort of mimick the look of a student in one of those old 30s school yearbook photos I love so much. Of course, due to my advancing age, I'm probably more akin to a Depression-era schoolmarm than a student. Still, let's pretend. Heehee. For some reason, I keep wanting to call this my Dr. Knickerbocker dress (hey, just remembered that schoolyard song....Doctor Knickerbocker, Knickerbocker, number 9...). Maybe it's due to the jaunty but sorta smushed and frayed rickrack trimmed neck tie and stripes reminiscent of men's shirting. Kinda perfect for Father's Day, too! Fun! On a slightly more serious note, as weekend reading material, the Dr. strongly recommends The Metropolitan Housewife's post on ways we can possibly get involved in the BP oil spill relief efforts.

I love your look, baroness... I am just curious, have you seen this web-site? It would literally be your connection to granny chic a la Miss Marple. You must check it out. I highly recommend it! It's a bit too pricey for me, but not astronomical by any means... It would look great with your swell ensemble!

lovely! i just wish 30's stuff would come my way too, I mean, in its cheap version. i really really want a cotton dress for a casual style (well ok, i want more, but one to start with). i find that i wear my 50's dress a lot because of the no fuss element, but i really want to achieve the 30s look with some little feedsack cutie.

you fashion never ceases to amaze me! I actually found a dress at one of the vintage stores here in Paris. It was vintage cacharel pink pin striped that was similar to this but a bit shorter cut and a collar...i thought "this is so vintage baroness!!!"

I'm glad you liked my experiments with the close-up function on my camera (and of course the shabby but wonderful new arrivals). This dress just has so much character, doesn't it? There's something about the combination of rickrack and striped cotton on a bowtie that just makes me swoon. I sorta love that the shoes have all kinds of imperfections, too. Nothing like worn leather!
Darlene: I DID check that site and of course I found an AWESOME red carpet bag on there. I think I know where some of the funds from my shop may be directed next ;)
Kir, Ina: glad you like the layout. I've still got some fiddling around to do, so that the header image is centred, etc., but when I saw blogger has a new template feature, I HAD to try it out!
