Spring "Weeding", Part One

As has become evident, I am a vintage addict with a tendency to hoard.  To help alleviate the perpetual problem, I will be continuing to list as much vintage as possible over the next while.  Here is a sampling of some of the items I have recently weeded out of my personal collection that just don't fit me so they need to go back out in the world!! To help the process along, I'm have a 15% off sale from now until Friday, April 1st (use coupon code MILDRED at checkout--items already on layaway are excluded).

Dr. Knickerbocker's School of Fashion

Just finished the slightly-better-than-rough draft of my article, just got a cute-as-pie and cheap-like-borscht little 30s cotton dress and chestnut 30s Red Cross shoes in the mail, so I'm feeling like a kid outta school for the summer.  As a result, thought I'd do a photo out by an exterior wall of my house, which is red brick like an old school house, to sort of mimick the look of a student in one of those old 30s school yearbook photos I love so much.  Of course,  due to my advancing age, I'm probably more akin to a Depression-era schoolmarm than a student.  Still, let's pretend.  Heehee.  For some reason, I keep wanting to call this my Dr. Knickerbocker dress (hey, just remembered that schoolyard song....Doctor Knickerbocker, Knickerbocker, number 9...).  Maybe it's due to the jaunty but sorta smushed and frayed rickrack trimmed neck tie and stripes reminiscent of men's shirting.  Kinda perfect for Father's Day, too! Fun!   On a slightly more serious note, as weekend reading material, the Dr. strongly recommends The Metropolitan Housewife's post on ways we can possibly get involved in the BP oil spill relief efforts.

Sun Fun Frock SOS

Speaking of fun sun frocks, here's a sneak peak at an early birthday present I bought myself (birthday's not till March, but who's counting? Also, so much for my resolution to make more dresses. Oops). I do have some questions relating to logistics of underpinnings: what does one wear to keep "things" in place up front? As I look at 30s backless dresses I wonder: were 30s undergarments made with low backs? Were there adjustable brassieres like there are now? Anyone know? In brief, this is a virtual message in a bottle; an SOS for help with how to best wear this life preserver dress without the "buoys" sinking. Har har :)
