Homespun Sweetness on a Rainy Afternoon

So, I was lucky enough to get a lot of six 1930s to 1940s feedsack dresses recently and since it has been raining off and on for a few days now, I've decided to set about giving them a little TLC before I put them in the shop.  The first one was listed yesterday and it sold in a matter of seconds, which makes me so happy that I am not the only one who sees there's something so special and sweet about vintage feedsack dresses.  The most pristine of the bunch is currently listed.  Four more to come.  With their darling striped, floral, and gingham patterns and, in the case of three of the six in this lot, with their rather endearing little "beauty marks" in the form of worn rickrack, uneven stitches, homespun patches and repairs, they have so much character and humble sweetness.

So lovely!!! The little imperfections make them so beautiful, and such a part of history in a way that a mass-produced garment never can be.

I've always wanted a dress like that. So unique and personal. I'm sure each has a story behind it.

Wow, what a great little bunch of dresses. I've always wanted a sack dress. I also appreciate the imperfect details and history of these clothes. Lovely.

Carys, Pixie, Bug: I couldn't agree more. The imperfections, the history = exactly why I think they are so wonderful, too!

Tess: I did love that first one, too, but I just don't think it was ME. At least that's what I had to tell myself when listing it: every day is an exercise in restraint. ;)

Miss Matilda, Maggie, Bella: thanks, gals! It really is neat when you can come across a sweet little cache of these! I'm hoping this bodes well for this summer when flea market season gets into full swing around here. This is my first year scoping out vintage here, so fingers crossed there are other little barns and houses with similar storehouses of feedsack dresses just waiting to be discovered!!
