Spring Sourcing

The spring sourcing season has begun for me, which means you can expect a little truckload of fresh 'new' vintage in the shop soon.  This also means I am open to taking on some new local Edmonton-area or Albertan consignments, so if you have vintage from the 1920s-60s that you would like to make a bit of cash on or that you would like to swap for other vintage loveliness, feel free to get in touch!

Twice Blessed

What a 40th birthday treat! While out antiquing on the momentous occasion, I happened to find a rare 1930s crocheted dress + matching slip. I had assumed it was shop-bound, until I discovered it was my size! Swoon! Two years ago, I found a deadstock 1930s gown, so I guess I've been twice blessed by the vintage birthday fairy!

Over the Moon: Nicoletta & Maxwell

I'm over the moon to see this photo from the recent Cicada Club wedding of Nicoletta and Maxwell, as one of the two vintage gowns the bride wore for her Old Hollywood wedding affair was this 1930s satin gown from Adeline's Attic Vintage!  Congrats, you two!  Watch for more photos of the wedding over at D Park Photography's blog.

Adeline's Gallery of Gorgeousness

As one of my projects for 2015, I'm gathering a gallery of gorgeousness, featuring all the Customer Appreciation pics of my fabulous buyers in their vintage from www.adelinesattic.etsy.com. Forward a fine photo of yourself wearing a vintage garment, hat, or other accessory which you purchased from Adeline's Attic Vintage, and not only will your photo be entered into the gallery and shared on social media (with your permission, of course), but your name will be entered into a quarterly draw for a $100 USD gift certificate for use in my etsy shop!

A Real Ringer

Still swooning over the results of my recent collaboration with the immensely talented and dreamy Hello June Photography for Adeline's Attic Vintage.   Everyone involved just "got" what I was hoping for, stylistically. Look how perfectly model/makeup artist Aki, and photographer Safauna embodied the 30s aesthetic through hair, makeup, lighting, pose, overall composition?? Doesn't Aki look like the twin of the Rolf Armstrong image dug up by my friend, the Sydney Flapper?  While I'm on the subject of the make-up, a shout out to Besame Cosmetics. We used the brightening violet powder and Merlot lipstick from this brand for the look, and since I'm a loyal wearer of this brand, I was unsurprised that the results for the shoot were stunning. Swoon!

Brooksy's Beautiful Bandeaux

Although I love my growing collection of authentic vintage 20s headwear, I do love a lovely repro., and these beautiful 1920s-inspired bandeaux by Broosky Hats on etsy have definitely caught my eye and stolen my heart! I'm eyeing the Hazel, though I adore the boudoir bandeau, too! This shop also has 20s style cloches, 30s style berets, and 40s style turban hats!  Swoon!

Bye to the Baroness, Hello June, and Attending to the Attic

As my new blog header hopefully suggests, I'm making some changes to this space to reflect the fact that my focus these days is on being a vintage seller and stylist, rather than purely a vintage fashion blogger.  This means that I am going to be continuing to now use the blog more as a professional space for Adeline's Attic Vintage, though I may throw in a few good old fashioned vintage outfit posts for good measure, now and then.  For now, I have to extend huge thanks to the incredibly talented Safauna of Hello June Photography for making my vintage aesthetic dreams come true today, through the creation of my stunning new blog and shop header!  She also worked with me to snap some great photos of vintage 20s, 30s, and 40s garments which are going into my shop shortly!  Props to Danger Delux, Aki, and Chantel for exquisite modelling, and extra thanks to Aki for hair and makeup work on the shoot!  I'm a happy happy camper! More images from the shoot shortly!

Girl in the Houndstooth Coat

I recently did a delightful vintage shoot for my shop with Chelsea of Girl in the Houndstooth Coat. Hop on over to her latest post for a look at more of the photos I took of this talented and beautiful gal, as well as some of her wonderful other posts and links to her own etsy shop and social media feeds!

Cover Girls

What a thrill I had last Friday when I opened the Edmonton Journal newspaper and saw the photo of a vintage outfit from Adeline's Attic Vintage--a photo which I had both styled and snapped on my friend/model--bedecking the cover of the Style section! Other photos and outfits were included in the accompanying article.  I'm by no means a professional photographer, but it was definitely an honour! Take a peek at the online version of the article?

The Baronial Brag Book (and a Big Batch of Gratitude)

As I am moving forward and embarking on a new 'vintage adventure,' in the form of my business partnership with The Moon River Mercantile Co. (we're on Etsy too) I foresee that this blog space will be in for some changes to put it more in line with the new shop, both in style and in content. I feel like my own personal vintage style has been evolving and will continue to do so, as well.  Stay tuned, as it becomes clearer what new direction I will take this blog space.

I will soon share with you some images of our new vintage showroom; however, even while I look to the present and the future, I feel like now is a good time to revisit the wonderful projects, experiences, and accomplishments which my vintage fashion blog has afforded me over the past FOUR years.  So, forgive me if this comes across as bombastic, but I feel like it's so easy to get caught up in feeling like I am not doing enough that I need to sometimes stop and do an auto-pat on the back for the things that I *have* seen to fruition.  Consider this my blogger's CV, if you will.  Again, I want to thank those of you who have remained my loyal and patient followers and friends, as I've weathered the peaks and valleys of the past few years.

  • I was asked by vintage-repro label Able Grable to design and then model an early 1930s style dress that went on to be dubbed the "Vintage Baroness."

  • I really enjoyed doing a fashion history article for the SiW Costumers' Journal. Watch for more of my fashion history writings in the future!

  • I served as Artistic Director, Head Stylist, and Photographer for a shop photoshoot at Rutherford House. I've since done several other shoots, vintage stylings, and fashion history consultations. Looking forward to doing more of such things, including consult work for a film project slated to be filmed locally this fall!

Lately:

Along my journey, I have been able to meet some really interesting people. Some meetings led to friendships that I know will flourish for years to come; sadly, I had to let a few others fizzle, but on the whole, what a marvellous set of experiences I've had. Looking forward to a new chapter in the book of my vintage-loving life!

The Best Laid Plans

Gaffs and glitches prevented me from doing a promotional post for a local NYE party, so I leave you with this 1930s inspired instagram pic showcasing a couple of items from Adeline's Attic Vintage and The Moon River Mercantile Co.!  Happy New Year, darlings!!

Adeline's Attic Vintage: GRATITUDE and a GIVEAWAY!

Well, I can't believe it. On October 11, my etsy shop, Adeline's Attic Vintage, celebrated its fourth birthday!  To say I am elated (in a rather misty-eyed way) is an understatement.  I can't thank you, my friends, followers, and patrons, enough for your support, encouragement, and business, as I took an opportunity afforded by a rather difficult personal and professional transition, and made a deeply personal dream into a "virtual" reality.  As many of you know, my shop was named after my beloved grandmother, Adeline, whom I was lucky enough to have as a central part of my life until her passing in 1995, when I was 19.  Adeline was a self-taught dressmaker and she also sold children's shoes at the now-defunct Canadian Department store, Eaton's.  She is the reason I fell in love with vintage and she is why I continue to be passionate about sharing that love with all of you. Now, then, as a gesture of gratitude, I am hosting a GIVEAWAY.  The prize is $75 USD store credit, which can be put towards any item in my etsy shop (***this credit cannot be combined with any other offer and cannot be put towards pre-existing layaways with me).  I have added a raffle widget below, so you can enter and share the giveaway with greater ease.  If you wish to use the image of my grandmother below as part of our own blog or instagram or Facebook post about this giveaway, please feel free! Good luck and I'll announce the winner on November 12th, 2013!

Who Has Seen the Wind?

A trip out to a local corn maze went awry (silly me, for even attempting to go on the last weekend of the season!), so a little Thanksgiving prairie photo-shoot took its place.  It's nice sometimes to stop and appreciate the local splendours right under my own feet here in Alberta. That includes appreciating the style and craftsmanship of the locally produced Cinder + Smoke dress I bought recently. It's truly the perfect autumn dress!  That 60s/70s mustard mohair vintage cape I wore? It's coming to the shop, shortly, but, boy was it cozy! Hurry, before I change my mind! Ditto with the 1930s purse! 20s/30s chenille beret is staying with me for now.

High above the prairie,
platter-flat,
the wind wings on,
bereft and wild its lonely song.
It ridges drifts
and licks their ripples off;
it smoothens crests,
piles snow against the fences.
.................................
A meadow lark sings
and it is spring.
And summer comes.
A year is done.
Another comes
and it is done.
Where spindling poplars lift
their dusty leaves
and wild sunflowers stare,
the gravestones stand
among the prairie grasses.
Over them a rapt
and endless silence lies.
This soil is rich.

Attic Activities

Lots of interesting stuff going on behind the scenes here at Adeline's Attic Vintage. Of particular note: I recently acquired a sizeable vintage collection from a local woman who had been collecting for several decades.  I'm also working on my photography with the help of my model/friend, Charly.  Have a peek at some of the latest!

La Vie en Rouge

I went to the French Quarter Farmer's Market in town yesterday and was happy the weather was crisp enough to allow me to wear my new knitted top. Doesn't it have a 1930s air to it? I thought so. It's made by a French company, too! I wore my new-to-me 1930s shell brooch. Isn't she a doll face? I'm still trying to name her, though. Any ideas?? I was considering Claudette, but would love to hear your suggestions.  1930s carved cellulite birdy bangle and the 20s/30s chenille beret (which I got in Montreal) rounded out my accessories.

Baronial Posturings and a Bird Hat

I'm not a REAL Baroness, but sometimes it's fun to play one on my blog!  To quote Dorothy Parker, "I've never been rich, but think I'd be darling at it!" Haha! Seriously, I am content being my non-baronial self, but I do love smart 1930s manor house fashions a la Gosford Park (and its predecessor, La Regle du Jeu).

Customer Chapeau Pics!

I just thought I'd share a couple of wonderful photos two customers who bought 30s/40s hats from my shop recently forwarded.  I LOVE seeing vintage items I've sold with their lovely new owners :).

Alberta Vintage Roses (Edmonton Chapter) Victrola & Croquet Spring Pie Picnic

As promised, here are some photos of the First Annual Victrola & Croquet Spring Pie Picnic, put on by the Edmonton Chapter of the Alberta Vintage Roses in Dick Mather Gazebo Park, next to McKay Avenue School (you shall surely recognize my vintage gal pals Bailey, Erin, and Laurie from previous outing posts).

My outfit details: I donned my 1930s floral cotton (feedsack?) dress, 30s crocheted hat, Re-mix 'Emily' shoes, and 30s celluloid glasses (though one of the lenses was cracked and fully broke on the way to the picnic..boo!).
