Oh Boy, Myrna Loy!

Every year around this time, I re-watch The Thin Man.  Every year, after seeing Myrna Loy in the famous Xmas shopping scene (screencapped below by Casey over at Elegant Musings), I dig my favourite Persian lamb trimmed 30s skirt suit out and try a sartorial homage to the lovely Nora Charles, Loy's character in the film.  If it was a little warmer out, I would totally wear this ensemble around town whilst doing my winter holiday errands.

1930s suit: ebay
30s/40s galoshes: Jaws Antiques (what luck that I found them, in my size, the day after drooling over Patricia's over at Lady By Choice!).
1930s satin rayon dickie: for sale in my etsy shop!

Funnily enough I just rewatched The Thin Man a couple weeks ago when my mom was visiting! :) I still die over that suit she's wearing in that first scene... You certainly give Myrna a run for her money!!! ;)

I definitely have an annual viewing of The Thin Man, which is my favorite holiday movie. Hands down. I can't get over Nora's wardrobe and I love love love the repartee. I keep hoping Paul and I will wake up one morning as fabulous as Nick and Nora Charles...

Fab outfit. :) I had to sneak a little fur-trimmed cardigan into my wardrobe this winter. It looks fab with my 40s inspired Mary Jane's. :)

What a fabulous outfit! After reading your post I sent off for the complete set of The Thin Man DVDs - I've always enjoyed seeing the first two on TV, don't think I've ever seen at least three of the films as I didn't know they'd made so many. I think I must start getting a few 1930s clothes, it's an era I've always loved but have never quite got round to wearing anything from the period - though at 65 I suspect my days of looking slim and glamorous are behind me:)

This suit is so marvelously chic and perfectly suited to countless occasions. Love it!

I'm especially drawn to your vintage galoshes, too, as I'm on the hunt for some vintage winter/cold weather footwear of my own at the moment.

Big hugs & cheerful Friday wishes,
♥ Jessica
