Under the Sea

When I was living on the West Coast, one of the buildings I loved to stop and admire was the Marine building.  Built in 1930, it has the most amazing Art Deco sea creatures carved onto it.  Maybe it is because of my memories of this gorgeous Art Deco marine theme that I am really drawn to vintage items with an oceanic connection.  Examples: things with a shell (clam or nautilus) design.  Things made out of mother of pearl or with silvery seed pearl.  Things the color of sea foam or blue ocean waves....and, of course, mermaids!

Shell barrette (rosebudcottage, now in my collection); scalloped deco pearl purse (??); metal shell purse (victorias4vintage);  clam shell beads (retrogal).
