Whatsoever Things are True

Perhaps because I spent 10 years of my adult life in university, around this time of year, I still get excited about the idea of back-to-school. Really, it's the preppy fall collegiate fashions that thrill me...and I will always be particularly smitten with vintage college fashions.  With all this in mind, my wonderful model, Charly, helped me create a bit of a mini-Look Book, containing items from my shop (or forthcoming to the shop).  These ensembles, which I styled and photographed, were inspired by vintage co-eds of the 40s, and shot at my own alma mater, the University of Alberta.  The title of the shoot (and this post) are derived from the U of A's motto, which, in Latin, is Quecumque Vera, "Whatsoever Things are True."

If I'm mistaken, I admit it, that how I work
Here, I must say, I'm mistaken, for I've said "brown could never be lovely" - oh, how wrong I was!

Both, the Chocolate Brown Crepe Rayon Buckle Dress and the Brown Velour Fur Felt Deco Cap are utterly lovely, dear!

I'm feeling very inspired by this lovely shoot - I'm going back to university soon myself, for my fourth year, and I would love to be dressed in this style for the new term.

I'm getting to start year 7 of college so I know how you feel! Oh to be able to walk around campus with vintage collegiate darlings instead of people in sweats and leggings....

YAY! I'm glad to change some minds about 30s brown...and I'm REALLY glad to hear some of you are planning on helping campus fashion become a little more refined! I agree: BOO to the baggy sweats and leggings brigades!

You are not alone in the slightest! I have't set foot in a classroom for a good many years now, yet as soon as August starts to wind down, I get almost giddy about thoughts of vintage collegiate fashion and new school (now home office in my case) supplies as well.

These shots are so expertly, gorgeous styled. Awesome work, dear Jill and Charly.
