The Right Stripes

HELLO, lovelies! It has been far too long since my last post. Normally, I am pretty private about my personal life, but after receiving an overwhelming number of concerned queries from people wondering why I haven't been blogging with the same frequency or energy.  I guess it's time to confess that behind the scenes (and the blogging screen), I have been struggling through a very trying 16 months or so, having gone through a divorce, then a move to Toronto, then LA, then back to Edmonton after leaving a very financially and abusive relationship. So far, 2013 has been kind to me. I feel like I'm finding my stride again, re-connecting with friends, family, and now, after having to sell most of my beautiful vintage collection to pay for moving costs and such, I've started acquiring a few 'new' items. Today I thought I'd share this 1930s green & multicoloured striped knit dress, which was my exact size and I knew had to be mine!!  The cinnabar 30s shoes I'm wearing in the photo are currently in my etsy shop (hurry before I snap them back up).

So sorry to hear that you've been through such a difficult time, but glad that 2013 is looking so much better for you.

Are you getting settled into your new apartment? From the pictures you showed earlier it looked like a lovely place.

Wishing you a wonderful 2013 out there in Edmonton.

I saw one of these mannequin heads the other day and thought of you! How funny.

Wishing you the best -- don't forget that you come out of every experience a different, stronger person.

Must ask -- WHAT BRAND is that adorable flapper-with-dog needle case?!

So glad to see you back! I know it's a cliche - but I truly believe that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger. It's only uphill from here! Keep your head up!

Adore the dress - THAT COLLAR! I'm dying over here.

You have been so amazing and gracious through this whole experience - I really respect that you weren't on the internet screaming through every twist and turn, though you certainly would have been justified in it! I wish that we had gotten to see more of each other when you were down in L.A., but that seems to be how things work down here because everyone is so spread out.

You are a wonderful and beautiful lady, and I hope that we get to see each other again! XOXO Beth

Thank you very much for sharing some of the private, life changing events that have transpired lately for you. I truly admire your fortitude and the fact that you got away from an awful, abusive relationship (I was involved in one of those during some of my teens years, and know far too well how terrifying and challenging they can be).

You look so gorgeous in this marvelous new (to you) frock. Here's to hoping the future is as happy as this dress makes you feel from here on out, my sweet friend.

I can't even begin to tell you how good it feels to have you back. I am so sorry you had to go through such trying times, it sounds far worse than I could have imagined. But you are back on your feet now, and you do what you need to do : look ahead, and build a new beautiful life. I wish you the very very best and I am sure something wonderful is waiting just around the corner. In the meantime, we are here for you should you need us.

And you certainly look smashing in that number! :)

So sorry to hear of your hardships, but I'm happy for you that you've managed to turn things around! Good for you! Let's hope 2013 keeps moving in the right direction.

The dress - and the shoes! omg, the shoes! - is just gorgeous! Love the colour and style. Your flat looks divine, I'm almost torn with whether or not I wish to see more of it... Just joking, it's nice to have something to dream of! =)

THANK YOU!!! I will try to snap more photos of my little 30s bachelorette suite. The maintenance folks are doing some repairs and painting at the moment, so I'll wait until the dust settles ;)
