See(berger)ing the Deauville Connection

Weird.  Last night, I finally realized that the "Deauville" photos I had reblogged earlier this year are actually photos from the book Elegance: The Seeberger Brothers and the Birth of Fashion Photography, which Lauren of Dear Golden had recommended to me recently.  By happenstance, when I went onto tumblr to share some of the other Seeberger images I found on the net last night, I discovered Miss Moss had just done a post on these very same images.  Anyway, aren't these fabulous??  Although my own real-life Riviera-resort plans have been put on hold indefinitely, I've got an epic Art Deco holiday trip to California planned & booked for the fall, so all I can think about is nautical resort wear, beach pajamas, and such.  Sigh, swoon! In the mean-time, MUST get this book ASAP!

what is so utterly bizarre, is that this morning i pulled the book out and read it again, pouring over the photos and marking some to scan for a blog post...lol! i won't do that now, it seems you all have it covered, but i can say i came away once again VERY inspired to wear some of the 1930s hats i have been hording!

So fabulous! Although the placement of the arrows on the sweater in #2 is a little, ahem, interesting. ;) Intentional or not?

Glad to hear you're coming out to CA this fall - hopefully we bump into each other! (Queen Mary, right?)

glad you enjoyed!!
Lauren: sorry to have accidentally quashed your post plans. If there are more examples of "elegance" like this in that book, please DO scan and post!!!!!

BETH: LOL! You're right! Those arrows are sort of saucy!

PS: Lauren (Wearing History) and Dakota: I LOVE that you used the word "slacks." So fabulous. My grandmother used the same term. Something so vintage about it!

Wow! That last pair of pants sure is something! That's not usually what I think of when I hear "70s do 30s", but apparently that was part of it!

hehe, well, really it's that the 70s did the 30s (70s designers clearly hearkened back to 30s designers who were the first to debut these pants!!)

Holy trousers! I know what I'm making this summer... Seriously, these put my other wide-legged slacks to shame. I also really really wish I could sport a beret the way these ladies did.

Thank you so, so much for putting these pictures up!!

Re-reading this post, and how did I miss the sweater with the pointing arrows?? All I can say to that is... wow!

Fantastic post! I'm loving them all. These ladies all look so effortlessly chic and put together. I'm reassured that linen-based fabrics can look great, even if they love to wrinkle!
