Lobster Love

Speaking of vintage inspirations in the modern world...a while back on my (now almost defunct) Facebook page, I had commented on the fact that I had noticed shock popster Lady Gaga wearing very Schiaparelli-Dali inspired accoutrements, most noticeably a huge silver lobster headpiece (by Philip Treachy?) that seemed to fuse Schia's lobster dress, Dali's lobster telepone, and Schia's love of avant-garde hats.  Today, I saw that my favourite milliner, Frollein Von Sofa has created her own AMAZING Schia-inspired lobster hat (third image below).  All I can say is: WAAAAANT!!  Gaga, get a clue...this is how it's done!

oh, you are too sweet ! thanks so much for posting that picture. at first I felt a little strange when making this hat, because it wasn't my intention to make a bad copy of one of schiaps
designs, but then again, why not. it's an hommage. I think she was the best and most innovative designer ever, and nowadays there's only a few people who know her...which is too sad ! I am sending you belated christmas kisses, keep on posting that wonderful pictures of you !!

I went to a fancy dress party with a lobster on my head when I was at uni, it was one of those plastic ones that you could get like strings of plastic onions for your kitchen. It too was inspired by the schiap dress and a frind went as one of the dali-designed mannequins that were made for the displays. They were on display in Brighton Museum at that time, I seem to recall that she had a clock face.

How awesome! My dad grew up in Maine and I still have a lot of family up there. That Maine part of me is quite giddy!

I agree, Q: that dress, worn by Wallis Simpson, is iconic and amazing!!
Frollein: your hat is darling! not at all a bad copy of an original!

Miss Rayne: that's fantastic!
Stephanie Lynn; suddenly I have a desire to wear a lobster hat to a Maine clam and lobster bake!!!

Mary R: yep, the whole thing was meant to be part of Surrealism!

Oooh! I want that hat, too! Reminds me of a picture I reblogged on Tumblr of a gal wearing a giant plastic crab (the pic was from the '40s) as a hat. Hehe.
