Into the Wild (and right back out of it)

Well, I'd love to say my day yesterday was as idyllic as the image above, but let's just say our epic camping trip was a comedy of errors.  We did start out on Saturday with plans to camp overnight at this place called Long Point Beach Provincial Park, but the first thing we saw when we drove into the site was a huge sign pointing to a group of plants right in the middle of the campground labeled "POISON IVY."  SERIOUSLY?  Next sign: "WORRIED ABOUT LYME DISEASE? THESE TICKS LIVE IN THE GRASS HERE (imagine gross blown up images of monstrous sized ticks shown in photos below the bold letters).  Thankfully, it turned out that this less than appealing place was full.  We ended up securing a lovely campsite at the nearby Turkey Point (yes, there are apparently wild turkeys in the area), but by the time we got set up, headed to the nearby beach, got roasted in the sun, and then came back to the site, we were exhausted and not in the mood to be kept up all night by the neighbouring campers whose stacked boxes of beer bottles and bongo drums foreshadowed sleeplessness for us.  Oh, did I mention that the mr. forgot his bathing trunks, so we had to detour to the local town to find a pair (lucky, he got a rockin' set of swim shorts for $8.00!)?  Um, we also forgot the thingy that allows one to blow up the air mattress that was going to save our aged backs from lumbago.  Sigh.  E for effort, but what a mini-ordeal!  Luckily, we have a more organized cottage getaway planned for next weekend.  A friend of le baron's family is letting us use her little cabin which is on its own island on a lovely lake.  At least that's what I've been told. I should probably not get too excited yet.  I haven't set eyes on the place...and it's without internet access and tv.  Still, I can't get the Loy-Powell lakeside scenes from Libeled Lady out of my mind.  Fingers crossed there will be music with my moonlight next weekend...and not of the college co-ed bongo drum kind!

Oh, sorry you had less than a stellar camping experience--I hope your cabin retreat is better. I'm glad they warned you about the ticks and ivy rather than having to find out the hard way. Though very sad, I loved the movie your title is from. The Sharon Olds poem featured in the graduation scene is one of my all time favorites.

Sounds like the script of a screwball comedy...

HAHAHA!! Every camping trip I've ever attempted has ended up in a total disaster, so I have given up all together. I think your cottage getaway sounds like a much better plan.
