The Power of Mr. Powell
What IS it about William Powell that I continue to absolutely and perpetually smitten with? EVERYTHING, I think. Although I read a hilarious quote by Carole Lombard, one of Powell's ex-wives, in which she said something like, "The son-of-a-b*** never quits acting. Even in the bedroom," I think he just embodies cool, witty, dashing charm, not to mention impeccable style. His voice, his carriage, his mesmeristic eyes, his sense of dramatic and comedic timing...just brilliant. I adore the bottom pic--the body language in the image, the way he is looking at Jean Harlow, with whom he was romantically involved before her untimely death = just wonderful.

I adore him! Love the quote from Carole, lol!
Fabulous post - in fact I was watching an Old episode of LA Link last night and a young girl was having him tatooed on her forearm lol :-0)
Too much good comedian to be honnest. I comprehend Carole Lombard !! ;)
Just Wonderful, plain and simply.
It's those milky eyes, and that pencil thin mustache that highlights a strong mouth. I get it, Baroness.
I also think his co-star, Myrna Loy is a little bit of a swoon-worthy gal herself... What a face and body!
Oh, I am an AVID Loy fan. I figured it was time to give "Nick" his day in the sun, too ;)
wasn't Carole a pistol, hey, Q? LOL
A Powell tattoo? WOW!
Oh yes, the moustache--and the way he worked it ;)
William Powell was suave, sexy, and funny.
I totally agree with you on all accounts, Powell was then man!! I particularly love his distinct voice, not to mention his debonaire looks! ;)
Loved the Thin man series !
Sigh! Dreamy Mr. Powell. I'd be willing to go blonde for him (like "Mousie" did).
I wholeheartedly agree :D
I love William Powell! My favourite movie of his is My Man Godfrey.

Oh, the power of Mr. Powell!!!! Kate, that is one of my favourite movies of all time. That is probably my second favourite role he's played (for me, there is nothing like his "Nick," but he's a show stealer in Godfrey for sure!
He did ooze charm, that's for sure!
I do not understand the quote exactly. Was she kidding? If not, that was a pretty rough thing to have said. lol
addie
oh, what a coincidence you should post this. i just watched him in "the great ziegfeld" yesterday (i've been having a lot of luck finding classic movies at the public library).
could jean harlow be any cuter?? i want what she's wearing.
Addie, that's why they got divorced ;) The love of CL's life was Clark Gable! Carole Lombard, from what I've read, was a very verbally explicit person. She had a really raunchy sense of humour and was definitely not a reserved, excessively poised person (at least not in her personal life). I think Jean Harlow was a better match for Powell, though their love affair ended too soon.
Ditto on lovin' any classic Powell movie and ditto on the adorableness of Harlow's whole ensemble!!
There is a wonderful documentary on Powell (and one on Loy) in the Thin Man box set. He has been my favorite actor since my older sister insisted on us watching the Thin Man 4 night marathon on the old Channel 11 (KTVT Dallas/Ft Worth) 9 o'clock movie in the summer. We snuck out of bed to watch them, and they have been a regular part of my life since the invention of the cheap VCR! His natural gallantry just shines through any roll he takes on.
