More Tantalizing Twenties Tailoring

Further to my last post, here are some more images of the sort of 1920s (and very early 30s) town and country tailored sportswear looks I've been a sucker for for ages (when I was teaching, I was a BIG fan of the shirt-vest-skirt or shirt-vest-trouser look).  Shoulda worn a tie and beret or cloche, though! Genius! Normally, I would not be posting about colder weather clothes but it's raining today. Moreover, I am already dreaming of my fall wardrobe.  Yep, I am ridiculous!

Music:  "Masculine Women" (as a former gender studies instructor/scholar, I find this an extremely interesting and yes, humourous expression of early 20th century anxieties surrounding the figure of the flapper and her "new" way of looking.  Really, if you think about it, its lyrics are an interesting expression of how clothing and gender are deeply entwined.  It's a pretty catchy tune, too).

I think that a shirt with a cute waistcoat looks so good on a woman. I have to find myself a waistcoat now after seeing that picture!

PS: the first image is from an early 1930s knitwear booklet. Maybe we can KNIT ourselves some awesome waistcoats, hey, Stef?

it would be so cool to recreate that first skirt suit. that waistcoat is killing me and that tie is such a nice touch.

Want, want, want! Of course, on me, the menswear look, I'd probably get a lot of "Excuse me, sir? orrrh, sorry, my mistake."
