Mannequins, Molyneux, and More: My Day in the Fashion History Museum

If you are thinking the mannequin above looks familiar to you, it may be because you've seen her in the book Forties Fashion: From Siren Suits to the New Look by Jonathan Walford.  I saw this "gal" again today while visiting Walford, who was kind enough to allow me (with Derrick in tow) over to browse through a sampling of the pieces in the Fashion History Museum collection.  The Fashion History Museum is an exciting endeavour which Jonathan and his partner, Kenn Norman, (Kickshaw Productions) are in the process of bringing to fruition. I must say there were so many interesting and beautiful garments in the portion of the collection that I saw that I am not sure which one was my favourite.  I love that the collection contains pieces from designers hailing not just from Paris, France, but from countries like Canada and South Africa. I also love that there is a delightful mixture of everything from couture evening gowns to maid's uniforms.  SWOON! Many many thanks to Jonathan and Kenn for generously allowing us to visit them to enjoy this collection.  Below are only a few of the photos from the day. By popular demand, I may post more later.  If you would like to know more about the Fashion History Museum, please visit the Kickshaw Productions informational page.  Kickshaw Productions also has a blog and an Etsy shop (proceeds of which help to fund the Museum!).

Oh, yeah! Beach Pyjamas!

This is very possibly a Schiaparelli!

Heaven!

Oh wow! You look like you had an absolute ball! I'd love to see you in those Beach Pyjamas...it would be the perfect match. And yes, she is very familiar to me as we sell that book at work, and whenever it is quiet I browse with adoration at the clothes that adorn her and her pals.xxx
p.s love the new layout and header!x

Dear Baroness, its really true that happiness makes a woman truly beautiful. You look radiant on the pictures ! :)

Today I saw two amazing clothes items that might interest you. And I actually asked that they hold themfor me, untill I had contacted you. They are two bathing suits ; one from the 1920s, the other probably early 1930s. One is black with a white monogram on the chest and the other is black and white stripped. The best part ... they are knitted! :)

If you think you might be interessted, let me know - divaabsoluta@yahoo.se

They won´t be available untill after a fashion exebihition were they will be displayed, but I could still send you some pictures.

I just thought of you the moment I saw them ! :)

OH MY GOSH! What a dream come true!
Strangely enough I used to have an evening dress of almost the identical pink floral print, but without the metallic weave... I wonder if it was a designer piece after all... maybe I should have kept it! lol
