Blueberry Perogy Bliss

If there is one thing that would have to be at the top of my "last meal" list, it would definitely be blueberry perogies.  Every time I stayed at my grandparents' place for the weekend (which was quite often), I would wake up to the smell of these delicious little dumplings being browned in a pan for my breakfast...YES, my breakfast!!  When I recently posted about my search for a close approximation of my grandmother's recipe for blueberry perogies on my other fledgling blog, "Humble Pie," a lovely commenter provided a recipe which I decided to try out today. I used some of the wild blueberries my in-laws picked and froze last year.  The result (if I may say so myself) = YUM! For the detailed recipe, see the other blog (look in the comment section of the post about the blueberry perogies).  Below is an abbreviated version, with visuals.

Get your "mise-en-place" of ingredients together (flour, salt, egg, water for dough; blueberries for filling)

Mix the dough

Roll it out

Cut dough into circles

Get your blueberries sugared and floured for filling (I used frozen local wild blueberries)

Fill the perogies (don't overfill, like I kinda did here)

Pinch closed (if dough won't stay pinched, I use a tiny little touch of water along the edge)

Boil in lightly salted water until they float (3-5 minutes); when ready, I remove them with a slotted spoon

Pan fry until golden brown in butter or margarine

Cheers!

Oh, that looks really good, different kind of pasties are really traditional in Finland, so those would be a success any time here!

They are definitely my weakness, these blueberry perogies. I can NEVER eat a reasonable number of them when I get or make 'em!!! YUM!

Hey, glad you like my kitchen! I must admit we were VERY lucky when we moved into this house last year, as the previous owners had just done a complete renovation of the kitchen. There were some other things (paint colors, weird glass mosaic GLUED to the wall) that we were quick to change as they didn't suit our tastes, but the kitchen has details I totally would have picked for myself. It's nice when it works out like that!

I definitely have a thing with "dressing up" even for the most mundane tasks. I'm not a huge fan of housework and don't always feel in the mood to bake or cook, so I try to make it fun by donning some red lips and a vintage house frock I wouldn't feel bad about getting dirty (although I wore an apron over this one when I was working with the blueberries!!). xoxo

Genius! I would never have thought to put fruits in perogies. And I agree with the other commenters...your kitchen is amazing.
