"'Costume Party of Our Lives": A Vintage Fashion Feature

It was an utter honour and total thrill to be featured on the front of the Style section of the Edmonton Journal last week, as part of an article about local vintage lovers!  Below is a scan of the feature and here is a link to the article online!

Verdant Greens

After difficult cullings, it's as if nature is springing forth in the most verdant manner.  Good weather means beautiful settings for shop photos. Just added to Adeline's Attic: 1950s celery tulle & lace prom party gown!

All in the Eyes

My favourite shot in the set of photos from my collaboration with Brad Gibbons of DB Photographics.  1920s velvet & gold cloche is available in my shop.

A Study in Sultry Satin: The Flapper Bride's Dream Dress

More photos from my collaboration with DB Photographics, with the focus in this set being on a dreamy 1920s paneled silk satin wedding gown (with swoon-worthy lace detailing at the front and back bodice necklines), which has just been added to my shop.

Edwardian Enchantment

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of orchestrating an impromptu vintage shoot for the shop with my model friend, Chantel, and talented photographer Brad Gibbons of DB Photographics.  Here is a peek at some of the magic we captured when photographing a beautiful Edwardian silk satin wedding gown I had planned to list, but an eager bride pre-bought it when I sneak peeked some of the images on my Facebook and Instagram feeds!

Spring Sourcing

The spring sourcing season has begun for me, which means you can expect a little truckload of fresh 'new' vintage in the shop soon.  This also means I am open to taking on some new local Edmonton-area or Albertan consignments, so if you have vintage from the 1920s-60s that you would like to make a bit of cash on or that you would like to swap for other vintage loveliness, feel free to get in touch!

The Brilliance of a Bobbed Brunette

My 'new' haircut has inspired this post. Consider it a tribute to the iconic Jazz Age beauty of a brunette with a bold bob!

Adeline's Gallery of Gorgeousness

As one of my projects for 2015, I'm gathering a gallery of gorgeousness, featuring all the Customer Appreciation pics of my fabulous buyers in their vintage from www.adelinesattic.etsy.com. Forward a fine photo of yourself wearing a vintage garment, hat, or other accessory which you purchased from Adeline's Attic Vintage, and not only will your photo be entered into the gallery and shared on social media (with your permission, of course), but your name will be entered into a quarterly draw for a $100 USD gift certificate for use in my etsy shop!

Brooksy's Beautiful Bandeaux

Although I love my growing collection of authentic vintage 20s headwear, I do love a lovely repro., and these beautiful 1920s-inspired bandeaux by Broosky Hats on etsy have definitely caught my eye and stolen my heart! I'm eyeing the Hazel, though I adore the boudoir bandeau, too! This shop also has 20s style cloches, 30s style berets, and 40s style turban hats!  Swoon!

Cover Girls

What a thrill I had last Friday when I opened the Edmonton Journal newspaper and saw the photo of a vintage outfit from Adeline's Attic Vintage--a photo which I had both styled and snapped on my friend/model--bedecking the cover of the Style section! Other photos and outfits were included in the accompanying article.  I'm by no means a professional photographer, but it was definitely an honour! Take a peek at the online version of the article?

Autumnal Awakenings

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” --F. Scott Fitzgerald

I cannot believe it is not yet mid-September and autumn has already almost come and gone here in my part of the world.  The changing of the seasons is bringing with it still more transformations in my life. One of them involves a movement back of sorts. After a trial partnership with The Moon River Mercantile Co., from which I learned and re-learned many things, I am looking forward to revitalizing my original vintage shop, Adeline's Attic Vintage.  Watch for lots of lovely 'new' vintage goods in the coming days, including this glorious late 20s/early 30s silk georgette gown.  Photo by Hello June Photography.

Stylin' Snaps

Hullo, dear bloggers! Hope you're all enjoying a lovely summer! I've been pretty darn busy with my shop, particularly with some great vintage fashion collaborations that have allowed me to learn while building my vintage fashion styling and photography skills.

  • Visit Hello June Photography's new blog for a peek at some of the styling work I did when she photographed some of Moon River's stock for our etsy listings.

The Moon River Mercantile Co. has been pretty lucky since opening, due to lots of social media exposure, too, for which we are really grateful! The latest:  some of our vintage purses appeared in the "Style Q & A Feature" (of the lovely Sarah of The Office of Sarah), in the latest issue of Avenue Magazine.

Flare Vintage Fashion Match-Up Feature

Hello, lovelies! What a whirlwind my life has been since opening The Moon River Mercantile Co.  If I said it has not been an intense amount of hard work, I would not be painting the full picture. However, every peak and valley has been well worth the excursion.  One of the recent peaks?  A vintage beauty of a dress from our shop was featured in the May issue of Flare, a national Canadian fashion magazine (bottom left below)!  Isn't she lovely?  We're so proud!  We are looking forward to several other wonderful opportunities and events in the near future.

Vintage Catch Up

Hello, lovelies! Sorry so scarce, but I've been busy as a bee! Here's a quick catch-up!

1) We were thrilled that Sandy Joe of The Pretty Secrets chose The Moon River Mercantile's vintage and location for a spring style feature she did for Vue Weekly recently.  Looking forward to future collaborations with this fabulous fashion maven.

2) We have received some amazing vintage goodies on consignment lately, so I've been busy as a bee working on (and at) The Moon River Mercantile Co. showroom, while also doing a lot of photo-shooting for the Etsy shop.  One of the new models I got to work with was the stunning Lucky L'amour.

(I'm planning to re-stock Adeline's Attic Vintage with a few cool Edwardian to 1930s items, too, but more on that later).

3). We've got a few other photographic projects and collaborations in the works. Recently, Brad of DB Photographics was the in showroom to shoot some fashion shots for our shop and his portfolio. Great work, Brad!

Ringing in the New Year Right

In the vintage world, deadstock items (never worn or used vintage items with shop tags still on) are the holy grail. How about a deadstock 1920s hat in a rare 22" size? Believe me, friends, this find rang my bell!  Sold quick as lightening on layaway over at Moon River Mercantile.

Dior, J'Adore!

It's been far too long since I last posted. I must tell you that part of the reason is due to the fact I've been pre-occupied with a pretty darn exciting venture that sort of found me by serendipity. I can't give the details YET, but please do stay tuned, especially if you are local to the Edmonton area!

In other exciting news, check out the 1950s and early 1960s Christian Dior designer beauties I found for my shop! Oh, Dior, j'adore!

(Beach) Pajama Party in the Suburbs

Despite my deco dreaming, at the end of the day, the reality is that, for now at least, I'm just a landlocked prairie girl from the suburban wilds of Edmonton.  That didn't stop me from bringing 30s beach style to the North side today in the form of my newly acquired deadstock 30s beach pyjamas.  I wore them while working on listings in my shop and I have to say I really dig my new work "uniform." SOMEDAY, maybe they'll get taken for a spin at one of the local beaches (Sylvan Lake, perhaps)? In the mean-time, these jazzy babies are rocking' the suburbs!
