Chap Hop vs. Electroswing

Wow! I've discovered yet another vintage-inflected genre of music, this one known as "Chap Hop."  What do you think? Personally, I prefer Electroswing, so I've included my favourite Parov Stelar 'mashup' below the Chap Hop sampler.

I'm pretty sure I've seen him before; Fleur or Jeni may have posted about him at some party many moons ago? It's a novelty I guess :)

This one is brand new to me, but having listened to a couple of songs now, I have to agree, I like electroswing a bit more, too. Both are definitely great for boasting one's energy levels though. Thanks so much for sharing, hon, you find the neatest music!

I actually really like that Chap Hop one, but I'm not sure how far I can take him seriously! I really like electroswing (first discovered it on your blog...!) but I feel like this Chap Hop things is almost more of an "act" than a genre of music. Either way, I enjoyed it.

I love a bit of Chap Hop, although I prefer Professor Elemental. (I went to a Prof Elemental gig on Tuesday night; he's very popular on the Steampunk scene.)

Electroswing is kind of the updating of classic swing using modern DJ music tips and tricks whereas Chap-hop is more a tongue-in-cheek reimagining of modern songs done in a gentlemanly, 1930s style, much as The Chap magazine & events - in/at which Mr B often appears - do. I love them both and would be hard-pressed to choose between them (incidentally you can see Mr B's latest song on my blog, also check out Professor Elemental who does similar performances). I'm glad you've discovered and enjoy both genres, though, Baroness.

What?! I didn't think this could be done, but Mr. B is very creative and talented. I like it!

I have categorized this music (with some other related styles) under the umbrella term of Victrolacore, in a post Victrolacore – Satirical Music for the Sartorial Gentleman. Of course, as Duke Ellington said, "There's two kinds of music: good music and the other kind."

Ah, I missed that post Kingpin! I may have missed Fleur's post, too, Rueby. Bruce et al, I do agree: there is more of a satirical air to Chap Hop. :)

Hehe, what Ellington says... Good you missed my rant about electroswing. :-D
Oh, one must the Brits and their satire. I just enjoyed a performance of Top Shelf Jazz in London. Boisterous cheeky fellows that play good music.
