Real Ruby Fashions

If I were going to design a Ruby Keeler-inspired line, I would definitely have put more ruffles, bows, hats, and graphic printed blouses in there.  In short, everything must be "DARLING," Dahhhhling.  The piece-de-resistance would HAVE to be pair of tap shorts.  Maybe some little tapper mary jane shoes with bows on them.  Ruby, show us how it's done...

How about a chic, tailored blouse?

Ruby's deco blazer is pretty snazzy.  Her pal's capelet coat and hat are too ADORABLE.

C'mon shoe designers...give us THESE goods

This bow blouse is the quintessential "Ruby" look in my humble opinion!

Ohhh, yeah...a plaid blouse like this would definitely be in my collection, too

EEps.  YES YES YES (this looks like the dress from my previous post...maybe I'd use it as the template for a Ruby gown with plaid detailing....TOTALLY Ms. Keeler).

The grand finale outfit

Footnote: I had no idea until recently that Ruby Keeler was Canadian!! Hurrah!

Okay I won't get started on the hair again. ;-)
But Ruby seems a person (with real legs) the model in the previous post is just a model, a pretty girl, but lacking personality, which might be good for a model.
As for you Lyell link... some pretty items, but I can't stand that way of posing. This slouchy, helpless, gazing, open mouthed, hurt look gets on my nerves. Give me energetic, brighteyed and smiling Ruby any time!

That makes me wonder, are most vintage inspired fashion shoots always that gloomy, dark and melancholic?

That's Una Merkel in the checked cape and glengarry, I seem to recall she had the best outfits in the film.

Thanks, Miss Rayne. Her name was on the tip of my brain!!

Ditto on the "wargh!" Penny Dreadful!

Those suspender shorts are indeed a classic. I believe I had posted about a real-life pair of them on Etsy not long ago. Droolsville!

superheidi: great point. I'm sure the state of the models is a big reason why I am usually repelled by a lot of fashion shoots. I also agree that most 30s inspired shoots portray the 30s as dark, moody, and rather dreary. Not sure why! I wholeheartedly agree that the real Ruby was a veritable sparkling gem. WHY we don't have similar images of female beauty and personality and talent for young women to look up to is a sad sign of the times. ;)

Amazing pics! You sure showed them how to do Ruby Keeler inspired fashion! I totally agree with your call for shoes!

Ruby always looked very cute and, as you said, darling. I adore all aspects of '30s fashion (all of the elegant lines of evening wear...swoon!) but, for me, I prefer all of the cute things - the bows, the chorus girl looks and their play clothes.
