Sonja Henie: Cutie Pie on Ice

Now that winter-like temperatures have actually hit here in Canada, I am eager to lace up my blades and hit the outdoor ice skating rink soon.  What to wear? Looking to 30s skating sweetie Sonja Henie for some cuteness cues (click photos for image sources).

Amazing, amazing, amazing! I am parcial to that velvet number. All of our ice rinks have closed now and I'm so sad that I didn't get to go this time. :( You will have to have lots of fun on my behalf. .

I've never seen one of her movies, but I'm now envious of Sonja's on-the-ice style. I usually look like the Michelin Man...

I was just at the Olympic Museum in Lake Placid, NY and they have an entire wall dedicated to Sonja. Not only did they have some of her costumes and skates but also a beautiful mink stole that she wore out to cocktails afterwards -- just stunning!

man i wish i could ice skate like that, it seems as close to flying as we can get while still on the ground. & to do it wearing adorable little outfits? what could be better?

oh I love Sonia! One of my fave films is 'Sun Valley Serenade'- it's the tops even if Glen Miller is a little wooden in the acting department!

I love that first ensemble. I really must add another pleated skirt to my wardrobe. How adorable! And to think, I'd never really heard of her until now.
