After a little accident involving me dribbling black tea down my white tank, I had to do a quick outfit swap (I grabbed my favourite 30s resort dress that I bought last year), before we headed out for a lovely dinner, followed by a walk down by the shore. Whenever I miss the ocean (before moving to Ontario, I lived out on the West Coast for ten years), it's great to be in close proximity to a Great Lake that has an ocean-like look and feel to it. Anyway, until I saw these photos, I didn't realize how tanned I've gotten this summer--despite wearing spf 45 every day, all that walking in the sun to the post office to mail shop parcels has given me a faux resort-tan. Oh, well, as Fleur and Lolita Starlet and Miss Matilda have blogged recently, at certain points in history, a gal with a tan was the picture of ideal beauty (also as The Painted Woman blog has established tans were a mark of the leisured class in the late 20s to 1930s). The way I see it, Coco Chanel would be proud. hehe.
Outfit: 1930s "life-preservers & nautical flags" novelty cotton resort dress and Haivanas flipflop (not as stylish as the shoes from my other outfit, but these things last forever..I've had mine for three years and very little wear n' tear!).

Such great photos. You look so happy and peaceful by the lake! The dress is phenomenal, what a great print. I know the feeling about living near a Great Lake, and in fact here in Chicago we have a few areas that look exactly like where you're standing!
Oh, I love this dress of yours, gorgeous print and back detail, simply enchanting. Nothing beats a simple/everyday summer outfit, particularly a "resort" one :)
As for the flips flops, unlike some purists I've been a fan of them for years (the ones with straw soles especially), and if you're not going to wear them at the beach then where?
Ooooh gorgeous dress!!
What a beautiful part of the world you live in and you're wearing just the right dress for the occasion:)). Oh summer! xo
I feel so lucky that I live here....feel more at home (and at peace) than I've ever felt in my life since moving to Southern Ontario two years ago. Meant to be!!!
Thanks for the kind words on my outfit...and thanks for enabling my flip flop love, garofit ;) I refuse to damage good vintage shoes (or even good Remix repros) via sand and sea, so the purists can cringe if they want :) Mind you, flip flops are just a modern version of the st. tropez sandals and whatnot, I think!
The back of your dress is stunning! The ocean is best. I wish I lived closer to one!
Looks like fun! I too adore the ocean. I'm not a fan of swimming in it but I love the feel and the taste of the air that comes from being on or near an ocean. Alas, I live rather far away from any decent body of water. :(
That sounds exactly what happens to me when I wear white! I don't like to think of myself as uncouth, but I evidently eat like a barbarian!
Your blog always makes me want to pack up and head for Ontario. It's so gorgeous!
Awesome photo's!
Love these photos :)
I always have liked having a little bit of a tan, but I don't make enough outdoor time to get it. you're inspiring me to spend more time out of doors!
I am obsessing over your dress! The print is divine, and I love the amazing back cut outs!

Thank you!! 30s dresses sure have neat design details designed to show off the back sometimes! One has to be careful with this one--otherwise, you could get some weird tan designs!!
I can't add anything that hasn't been said: Astoundingly gorgeous dress, and beautiful photos!! xx
Lovely!
