Ivy League

I don't miss school. I really don't.  I do, however, miss the beauty of ivy-covered buildings, the sense of possibility embodied by rows and rows of unread books, new scribblers, and carefully sharpened pencils, the pleasures of preparing the first day of school outfit.   Yes, the IDEA of academic life will always be a siren song to me, though I still have no plans to go back to teaching or learning in a formal scholarly way.  Playing school in the backyard against the backdrop of the unruly ivy growing on my fence with fallen crabapples underfoot was pretty darn fun ;) Speaking of siren songs, I acquired this 30s deco plaid dress for my shop but it seems to want to stay with me...at least for now.  More goodies will be added soon, though, including more than one 30s dress (can't hoard 'em all).

I don't blame you for holding on to that dress. ;] And that imagery of studying - sigh. It appeals to me, too! Unfortunately, I did my Bachelor in a rather ugly building - red brick and highly shined silver metal. However, it was designed specifically to be an art school so there was LOTS of natural light. Am hoping to go back to studying next year, actually.

the pattern/ color combo is perfect, as deco as it gets, and that collar is divine!

What a beautiful dress, I'm not surprised you're keeping hold of it for the moment!

Shoes from Etsy (30s red cross oxfords). THANKS!

Sadly coming to terms with fact dress is too big for me. LOVE it to bits, though and am flattered you do, too!

Frl. Irene Palfy: thanks! I'm trying to improve my photography skills day by day. I admit I toyed around with that pic using digital photo editing tricks via Picnik, but am glad I got a pleasing effect!

Andi: yeah, most of my English classes were held in horrible 70s bunker-like classrooms. I used to go and study in the beautiful art deco fine art library at my uni all the time, though. Cool that you have plans to go back! I would rather eat nails than do a post-doc, but I don't regret doing my other undergrad and grad studies at all. Might do some fashion history courses here and there, but really don't know if I'll ever go back to teaching composition...though the money was really good, the emotional, mental and physical tolls were really high! ;P

Fantastic print!! And is the buckle fabric covered too---how wonderful! Love your artful montages! Is the dress worth tailoring to your figure?

What a great dress, I love the collar. I know what you mean, I feel the same way about school...the idea of it is so very alluring for so many reasons. I think I'll go back for another degree, I'm just not sure for what yet. How have you been?

Beautiful dress and shoes! I love the fabric and colors of the dress!

That's fantastic, Kelley Anne!

I've been good...had a great holiday, then a rather trying time late July after a neighbour suddenly passed. Doing better, trying to enjoy as much of the late summer/early fall splendour as I can!!! How have YOU been, Kelley Anne? Drop me an email sometime if you want!

Debi: Thanks! The fabric is so heartbreakingly gorgeous. Alas, I sold this frock to a friend who will fit it better. I just didn't want to have to go through the agonizing task of altering it if I could avoid it. Glad I shared a special garden moment with it before I let it go ;)
