The Latest Fashions for May (1933)

Since last year, I have been on a self-imposed magazine reading and buying ban.  Actually, I've been on a MODERN magazine buying ban because I am tired of the same trends, the same ads, and the same images of female beauty and sexuality being displayed therein.  Vintage magazines from the 1930s are not part of that ban.  Let's have a little peek into the Woman's Journal from May 1933 for a little late spring style inspiration, shall we? Kim, thought you might like a peek at some of these frocks!

Images from Gold Stars for Tulip on Flickr (I really need to upload scans from my own ephemera collection. SOON!).

I really like the organdie and pique' set and the checked suits below it.

If womens magazines were done the way they used to be, I would be more inclined to purchase them (okay so some contemporary fashion magazines are exempt from that statement). Those are just divine!

I'd like to place an order for the white ensemble in the first plate, the red and blue in the second, the orange evening gown, the peach frock in the 4th, the pale blue suit, and the checked skirt with the knit top, please!

Oh, I agree with you. Modern magazines are so boring. You see one, and you've seen them all. I prefer vintage ones too!

I love the long white dress with the ruffles in the third photo!

One can NEVER have enough organdy, pique, or checked suits, I say!

I'll have what the Dreamstress is having ;)

Dreamstress, did you notice the gal in the first plate in white is wearing about 5 scarves! Interesting!

Oh, I must comment on the language in the ads. Some fabulous words used repeatedly that I MUST remember to try to work into everyday speech: "debonair," "gaiety," and "charming" (which is used twice)

I find fashion in modern magazines very boring, they're all the same each year. I much prefer the vintage ones!

All the clothes look fantastic, but i particularly love the suits in the 3rd plate, swoon!
