Galoshes Galore

Boy, have I been getting a lot of wear out of my vintage galoshes this winter.  Looking back on ads for galoshes from the 20s, I'm not sure which I love more: the overbooties themselves or the advertisements!

I guess people walked more in those days -- perhaps city people who took public transportation or whatever. Also, they wore leather shoes which were more expensive than today's plastic ones, and they were more fragile, so you'd want to protect them. I remember people wearing golashes.

Ah, so pretty!!! I love vintage galoshes, and they're such a smart idea. I have big ol' modern feet, so I have a pair of "drizzle boots" from the old lady store, haha... not quite as cute!

They are very lovely indeed, and were such a great idea. It's so strange that overboots did not remain a popular shoe item. I mean look at how much money some women today on a pair of shoes. You'd think they would want to protect that investment.

Viking, a Swedish brand, makes reproduction rubber boots. The original is from 1939 and is very elegant with a 2 inch heel. I'm very happy with my pair!

Aren't they lovely. I'd adore a pair, but I'm afraid it will never happen with my clodhoppers x
