Renee Perle Revisited
Last winter I blogged about the fact that I think Romanian model and Jacques Henri Lartigue muse, Renee Perle, was a stunning 20s/30s fashion and beauty icon. Right now, I could easily just live in her Riviera "uniform" of tank tops (often striped), floppy hats, and breezy wide legged trousers/pyjamas. I, however, WOULD opt for a brassiere of some sort ;)
Ay she is H-O-T!!! Damn what mean style!!
ReplyDeleteI started making myself a pair of crazy wide 30s pants like these in white linen a coupla years ago, had to line them too--and found that I couldn't take a step without getting my toe caught. Not so cute! Maybe a stiffer twill would be better. But this is inspiring me to finish them! Fab!

ReplyDeleteSeeing her flat shoes it made me think I have a lot of pics of pretty 20s/30s heels, but not much in the way of flat sports/casual shoes to get inspiration from and source, if not vintage ones, at least sympathetic modern.

Yes I had the same problem as nudeedudee when making some wide leg pyjama pants, I think the trick is to make them about half an inch shorter than normal and only wear flats with them.

She looks amazing...i've never seen a wider pair of trousers! I agree about the brassiere, she definately needs 'perking up' a bit.x

Well, in her defense. Brassieres of the time were pretty much what we would consider camisoles today. They didn't really have any lifting power.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely bralessness was the norm on the Riviera. I've got one of those early thirties "bras" that you are mentioning, Nancy (in fact, I wear it to bed at night). It still at least stops my bust from drooping as low as Ms. Perle's does in that second image. No underwire uplift for sure, but at least it holds the "girls" sort of 'in" and at a height that doesn't feel uncomfortable (my dense C cup size bust has weight, y'all--without SOME form of support it HURTS to feel the tissue being pulled by gravity. WAAAAY too much info but there ya go). But of course, "a chacun son gout!"
