A Stitch in Time Sampler
I noticed Casey, over at Elegant Musings, is also experiencing a knit fit. The lucky gal snagged a copy of the original edition of the book A Stitch in Time, and is already knitting a beautiful piece! AWESOME! I only own the new edition but I think it is a pretty fantastic book as well! Check out some of the gorgeous images of the vintage patterns turned into real-life creations (courtesy of flickr)....yes, that model in the third image IS Fleur de Guerre doing a glorious job showing one of the gorgeous creations you can make using patterns from this book! Boy oh boy oh boy, I MUST get out yarn shopping SOON!
I have this book too! I got it for my birthday last year and have been trying to pluck up the courage to knit the blue and brown dress. This summer perhaps I'll take the plunge... x
ReplyDeleteI too have been drooling over vintage knits but sadly, I have JUST learned how to knit and am having problems finding a good beginner piece. I tend to dive straight into things and then regret it later! :( If you have any suggestions for a beginner's project, let me know! Oh, those pics are so incredibly beautiful! I was just digging through a stack of my grandma's 1940's Mccalls needle art magazines the other day. So many patterns, so little knowledge!

ReplyDeleteBrittany, I found the Victory jumper pattern on this page quite easy:

It was the first jumper I'd made and as long a you can knit and purl you should be fine. Maybe do a sample square first, so you understand the pattern?

Dreamstress: I do think the blonde gal and Fleur have more "vintage proportions." The willowy brunette definitely makes the clothes look great too, but it's a different look, isn't it?

Oh Baroness, leave some hope to us skinny gals too! One of the reasons I love crochet and knit so much id that it makes me look "rounder"! (:
ReplyDeletegarofit, you can tell from the number of images of that brunette that I think she has a fabulous look!!! ;) Not all 30s crochet dames (as I like to call them) were really curvy. Case in point: the image I included with my aqua knit image had a lovely slender figure--and I actually thought the jumper looked superior on her...after looking at my posted pictures next to her I felt almost too busty. Alas, I hope I have not offended in pointing out that both are fabulous vintage looks!
