Wild Rose Antique Show

Today, I donned my vintage apparel and hit the bricks bright & early to attend the Wild Rose Antiques show for the first time, and, boy, I sure did go *wild* for all the loveliness I encountered.  Despite a frustrating start to the experience* (see footnote at end of post), in the end, I had a swell time; most importantly, I scored some wonderful things, both for myself (the art nouveau dish and the 30s carved chocolate bakelite bangle) and for my shop (the 30s and 40s magazines, among many other goodies not pictured here).  I enjoyed the "not for sale" displays of vintage aprons, Depression glass, and talc containers, too!!
*My experience was only marred by a lack of clarity on the part of the event organizers regarding the process for ticket purchase in relation to the line-ups. In short, I stood in line for 20 minutes only to be told at the entrance that tickets were not available at the door, which is the way entrance is handled at every other antique or vintage event I have attended.  In this instance, I was denied entrance and sent to the ticket kiosk, which was beside the end of the very long line. Then I had to get back in line and wait all over again. There was no signage or info online indicating no tickets at the door, so I was disappointed that I had to queue up twice.  Who knows what treasures I missed due to this mini-debacle. Alas, I must not be a greedy guts. I got lots of really fine things!!

Tea with the Vintage Baroness, Birthday Edition: Part Two

I couldn't resist sharing a few more of my favourite images of we members of the Alberta Vintage Roses group at Rutherford House, just before my vintage birthday high tea.

1930s yellow crocheted cardigan from Top Tottie; 1930s blue hat, Montreal; 1930s crochet gauntlet gloves, Elizabeth's Antique & Collectibles Show; nudeedudee skirt; Remix "It Girl" shoes

Tea with the Vintage Baroness, Birthday Edition, Part One

What a glorious day at Rutherford House with my wonderful vintage-loving friends, including Miss Bee Vintage, Erin of My Twelve Cents' Worth, and Laurie, Retro Reporter (big hugs to my non-blogging mum and my friends Charly and Nicole, too)! Here's a peek at my very special high tea birthday!!

Flirty 30s Frou Frou

People often ask me how I can part with all the lovely vintage things I source from my shop or cull from my collection.  My answer is that it takes a lot of tough love and restraint not to hoard it all. Once in a while, I *do* keep what I find because they feel like a gift from the vintage gods. An adorable 30s blouse and deco hat found me in Montreal and probably my favourite find to date, a DEADSTOCK 1930s gown + slip set with 'birthday cake' colours and 3-D blue flowers, followed me home yesterday.  Which of these fabulously 'frou frou' lovelies shall I wear to my birthday party today? Stay tuned! What's YOUR favourite vintage find?

Blue & White for a Montreal Night

Silly me! So much for being a so-called vintage fashion blogger!! I didn't get time to have photos of the 1930s vintage outfits I wore recently. Darn cold weather has made it tricky to do outfit posts that are not centred around outerwear!  Alas, a little digging in my archives and I found some previous images of the ensemble I also wore out for dinner with my Montreal friends to the gorgeously historical Taverne Square Dominion (thanks again to the Vintage Bloke for suggesting it and making all necessary reservations!!), followed by an attempt to do a bit of swing dancing (the floor was PACKED, though).

Elizabeth's Antique and Collectibles Outing

This past weekend, Laurie (Retro Reporter), Bailey (Miss Bee Vintage) and I braved the blowing snow to attend the spring edition of Elizabeth's Antique and Collectible Sale here in Edmonton. We each found some cute little odds n' ends and accessories, and were very flattered to find people enjoyed our vintage outfits!  Thanks to Sheree Zielke Visuals for these lovely shots capturing our outing! We'll be back again next season, perhaps with a booth!  Just a note that Laurie has started a Facebook group to help Alberta vintage lovers connect: if you are an Alberta Vintage lover come join us!

Montreal Marvels, Part One

Montreal was so marvellous! I got to see some amazing historical architecture, eat some sinfully fabulous food, and meet my vintage-loving friends Ernest the Vintage Bloke and his "amie" Veronique!

Oh, Chapeaux!!

Back from beautiful Montreal and I have a bazillion pics to share. First, however, I want to let you peek at the glorious 1930s and 40s hat I scored for the shop (oh, and at the top of the post you'll see the little early 30s beret I got for myself...hee hee)!

I will be spending the day listing these beau chapeaux, but if you want to snap one up and it's not listed, leave a comment or send an etsy message :)

Fifi D'Orsay: Flirty French Canadian Flapper

I'm so excited! Shortly, I will be off for a little jaunt to Montreal! To kick off this exciting adventure, I thought I'd share a few photos of the adorable Fifi D'Orsay, a 1920s and 30s Hollywood film starlet who was born in Montreal, QC! I love how, in the following photos, she could look as adorable as Mae Questel, Helen Kane, or Clara Bow; as sultry and vampish as Louise Brooks; or as smouldering as a brunette Jean Harlow!!  Being a 20s and 30s lover with wavy hair, I find her style quite emulate-able :).  Anyway, here's a link to her bio!
