Black & Blonde

Ok, let's take a reprieve from the gloating about the glorious California weather for a moment: For those of you who are moving towards cooler weather (or who are still in a spring state of mind), I shall be listing this AMAZING 1930s black wool and blonde fur deco coat in the shop shortly (though it is, of course, calling my name from the shop storage closet...eeps...if I didn't sell vintage to earn my bread, I'd be keeping it alllll).  I must admit it's nice to be back in my 30s fashion comfort zone, even if passersby in shorts and tanks looked sideways at the dame draped in fur as they passed.

The second red hot vintage dress in the shop: a 1940s rayon beauty with beaded 'necklace' detail! It's truly in pristine condition, too!!

Red Hots, Part One: Hot Hula Honey

Consider this: I walked over Dorothy Lamour's star in Hollywood the other day and then shortly thereafter, I found this amazing 1950s red hawaiian dress for the shop. Coincidence?  Maybe. All I know is the dress has this fantastic "tie" bodice that lets you arrange the top a number of different ways! Who doesn't love options? :) Anyway, this hot hula honey dress is coming to the shop shortly!

Cheveux de Couleur

Further to my previous post about 1930s two toned hair....STOP the PRESS! I just found a 1935 article discussing coloured hair! Featured hues of that season included PINK and BLUE!!

I love how this article talks about that the two defining spirits of the age (c. 1930s) that this era's feminine beauty ideals centred around were: 1) a love of sports and healthy living and 2) a taste for a certain kind of more elaborate (read 'made up' and/or ornamented) aesthetic (that's how I translate the use of the word 'artifice' here. It argues it is these two influences that have given birth in a sense to the modern woman of the '30s.  Fascinating. That's why I love the 30s so.
